TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, April 10, 1953. Letter to Frances Perkins of the United States Civil Service Commission, accepting her resignation. In full: "As tendered in your letter of January twentieth, I hereby accept your resignation as a United States Civil Service Commissioner, effective upon the appointment and qualification of your successor. In doing so, I wish to thank you for all that you say in your letter and to assure you of my appreciation of your service and helpfulness during this period of transition. Needless to add, I cordially reciprocate your personal good wishes." In very good condition, with missing upper left corner tip, scattered light creasing, and light irregular toning. Perkins was the first woman to be appointed as a cabinet secretary, having served as secretary of labor for the entirety of Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration; in this role she was integral in advancing many components of the New Deal.
