Brass button from Dwight D. Eisenhower’s personally-owned and -worn green Masters Tournament jacket, circa 1950s, measuring just under 1? in diameter. The button was manufactured by the Waterbury Button Company and features the Augusta National Golf Club logo in the center. Originates from the collection of Sgt. John Moaney, who served as Ike’s close personal valet from 1942 until the president's death in 1969, and includes two invitations with scheduling details for President Eisenhower’s flights from Washington to Augusta, Georgia, one for Sgt. John Moaney dated 1958 and one for Delores Moaney dated 1954. Also accompanied by three photos from the period, one showing President Eisenhower with Sgt. John Moaney on a bench at the exclusive golf club (picturing Ike wearing the green Master’s jacket that this button originated from) one showing Sgt. Moaney assisting President Eisenhower with his shoes, and one of the main building. Dwight D. Eisenhower was an avid golfer and frequented Augusta—the historic home of the Master’s—one of the course’s iconic features is known as the ‘Eisenhower Tree,’ a loblolly pine that the president unsuccessfully lobbied to have taken down because it interfered with his golf game.
