Eisenhower</B></I>" on his embossed five-star stationery, 1 page, "<I>Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe</B></I>", Feb. 4, 1952, to Pierre Bertrand, Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the celebration of Reims' 2000th Anniversary. In part: "<I>...this note is to convey to you and the citizens of Reims, my warm best wishes for a successful celebration of the Two Thousandth Anniversary... I am particularly gratified that my position as an Honorary Reims Citizen since 1945 enables me... to participate in the commemoration of such an important milestone in the city's history.</B></I>" Eisenhower had been awarded an honorary citizenship on May 12, 1945, five days after the German unconditional surrender at the historic city.
