Dwight D. Eisenhower typed letter signed as President, dated 1 August 1955 on official White House letterhead. Here, Eisenhower writes to his brother Edgar discussing the contentious Bricker Amendment. Reads in full: ''Dear Ed: I am told that Judge Orie Phillips, Mr. Rankin (Justice Department), Senator Bricker and Loyd Wright have all concluded that the best wording for Section 1 would be 'Any provision of a treaty or international agreement which conflicts with this Constitution shall be of no force or effect.' I assure you that I shall not oppose any Amendment that is couched in this language, and I would certainly like to see this matter off the books once and for all.'' Signed simply, ''DE''. Letter measures 7'' x 10.25'' on one page with two holes punched at top, else fine condition.
