Dwight D. Eienhower 1944 Typed Letter Signed TLS: "Dwight D. Eisenhower" as Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force, 1p, 6" x 8". Supreme Headquarters, July 7, 1944. To Frank J. Beebee, Newtonville, Mass. In full: "Thank you for your kindness in sending me my monogram. I appreciate the thought. I am enclosing a facsimile of my shoulder sleeve insignia. Thank you for your good wishes." General Eisenhower had led the invasion of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, just one month earlier. The letter is affixed to a page of a specially bound, hardcover scrapbook, with "IKE 1953" in gilt lettering imprinted on the spine. The book measures 6.5" x 8.5" and has 68 pages with photographs affixed to one side only. Many are Associated Press black & white photographs, but there are also photographs clipped from magazines and newspapers, all relating to Dwight D. Eisenhower, with most picturing him. A four page typed article from the June 1, 1952 edition of "The New York Times" (about Ike's candidacy for the 1952 presidential nomination) is near the front of the book and a one page typed index is in the back. The 8" x 10.5" color "facsimile of my shoulder sleeve insignia" mentioned by General Eisenhower has been tipped to a page. Letter and insignia facsimile sheet each bear one horizontal and one vertical fold from mailing. Overall, the book is in fine condition. A unique addition to an Eisenhower collection. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
