Fine representation of a Buddha with a beautiful patina

This impressive bronze figure was crafted by the Mon people in the Thai Dvaravati period in the 8th-11th century. Buddha stands in the upright samabhanga position with his feet pointing forward. Both hands form the vitarka mudra, the gesture of explanation, with the thumb and forefinger. His left hand is placed by his hips and his right hand is raised to his waist. Buddha wears a simple monk’s robe kasaya, wrapped around the hip and laid over his left shoulder. The right shoulder is uncovered. The Enlightened one has long earlobes and a meditative expression with half-closed eyes that emphasized his grandeur. Small, tapered curls and a dome-shaped ushnisha adorn his head. Due to the beautiful, distinctive azurite and malachite patina the figure has a particular aesthetic. It rests on a modern base.

The bronze figure is in good condition with age-related signs of wear. There are restorations all-round. The height without base is 16 cm, the width 6 cm and the depth 3.5 cm. The total height measures 22 cm.
