FOR YOUR READING ENJOYMENT:
Louise Dunavant, Pioneer Memphis Policewoman and Artist --Just before her high school graduation in 1949, Louise Dunavant started her career at Loews Sate Theatre, and remembered Elvis Presley as an usher with a guitar! Soon she saw an ad in the paper for meter maids, and began her police career in downtown Memphis. Taking a shortcut through the lobby of the Peabody Hotel she saw paintings for sale, and used her love of drawing and painting to supplement her income. In 1964, she became one of the first two female detectives.

In 1983 she spent $3800 of her money to make prints of a still life "Spirit of Beale." Between 1983 and 1997 she released twenty four prints. Her last release was in 1997 "Moonlight over Memphis." She had no formal training in art.

Louise retired from the police department in 1988, is a member of Hope Presbyterian Church and enjoys her role as a grandmother.
