1916, Virginia. Stock certificate for 20 shares. Green/Gray/Black. Vignette of Drexel logo at top left. Litho. Needing more capital to put out an advanced version of his Chicago-made automobile, the Farmack, Albert J. Farmer reorganized and renamed his Farmack Motor Car Company (1915-16) as Drexel Motor Car Corporation. While Farmer was an exceptionally talented engineer with a pedigree which included such distinguished firms as Pratt & Whitney, Cole Firearms, and General Motors, he was a very poor businessman, and the Drexel (1916-17) fared no better than the Farmack. Farmer, in fact, was pushed out of the company in the spring of 1917 due to mismanagement, and this, combined with the failure of several banks that had invested heavily in the Drexel, served to pull the curtains down on the company in October of that year. The certificate is signed by A.J. FARMER as president. A scarce automotive certificate. Uncancelled and Very fine.
