Dracula (Universal, 1931). Lobby Card (11 X 14 ). Bela
Dracula (Universal, 1931). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Bela Lugosi began performing as the evil Transylvanian Count on the stage several years before he brought the role to the screen in 1931. When Universal decided to bring the play to the screen, the first choice was Lon Chaney. Lugosi lobbied and Chaney died shortly before production began. Thus, Lugosi won the role of his lifetime. This original release card appears to be in very nice condition but does have expert restoration. That includes some loss of paper on the backside of the card in the upper left corner behind Helen Chandler and Edward Van Sloan's heads. There were small pieces of surface paper loss in several of the corners of the backside of the card. There was a crease in the card which ran through Dwight Frye's shoulder in the inset photo. The restoration job done was so seamless that one really has to inspect to see the work other than the crease, which can be seen. The colors are great and the card displays beautifully. Fine-.
