Dr. Seuss ALS Lot
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Collection of seven Dr. Seuss autograph letters, all but two signed ''Ted''. With six of the seven letters on 7.25'' x 10.5'' ''Dr. Seuss / The Tower / La Jolla, California'' blue letterhead. Each letter is addressed to a different person and most were presumably written in 1971, the year ''The Lorax'' was published. Very good content with literary references include: (1) ''Dear John: knowing your interest in keeping places beautiful, I think you might like to see the Lorax, which will be published in September…If there's anything you don't like about the colors or the drawings, you have only yourself and Don Graham to blame. All I know how to do is what I was taught…'' (2) ''Dear Red: Thanks for the N.Y. Times story about the Lyndon Johnson party. To explain my mystifying presence at this shindig, I'm enclosing a copy of the Lorax…(my forthcoming book for kids about ecological problems)…'' (3) ''Dear Clark:…I'll be sending you a copy of my newest…the Lorax…in which I clobber the children on ecological matters…'' (4) ''Dear Miss Lanes: your brilliant book, Down the Rabbit Hole has been forwarded to me…Maybe I am prejudiced about it being brilliant. Because you were certainly more than super kind in your chapter about Dr. Seuss. (with orgasms, even!)…'' With ''Sincerely'' written but no signature. (5) ''Dear Mr. Yoken…my favorite Dr. Seuss books? I think I would place the two Horton books and the Grinch at the top of my list…'' With ''Sincerely'' written but no signature. (6) ''Dear Jerry:…I feel the humor in this book should not be in editorial comment. But by illustration and surprise juxtapositions and by a few weirdo autographs for the kids to collect…'' (7) a letter written by Geisel to an assistant. All in near fine to fine condition.
