Dr. No (United Artists, 1962). Half Sheet (22" X 28"). The number of people who claim to have attended Woodstock only slightly outnumbers those in Hollywood who allege to have been offered or considered for the role of James Bond. Many fans know that Cary Grant, David Niven, Trevor Howard and Rex Harrison all made a short list and that author Ian Fleming preferred Roger Moore to be the original Bond. But how would Christopher Lee, Max Von Sydow, Patrick McGoohan, Richard Burton or, gulp, John Frankenheimer have looked in a tuxedo? And Noel Coward as Dr. No? He reportedly replied to Fleming's offer with a telegram reading, "Dr. No? No! No! No!" Instead, Joseph Wiseman became the series' first supervillain and Sean Connery ably acquitted himself as the suave spy. This rolled half sheet introduces Connery with a literal wink, becoming "flesh and blood" in monochromatic art. The poster has a tear in the left edge, paper loss in the bottom-left corner, slight wrinkling, a few small stains and a crease mark that vertically bisects the poster. The smaller format posters on this title have become increasingly hard to find.
