Front embossed “Dr. J. B. B. Lefevre/ Druggist/ Virginia City Nev.” No maker’s mark. Tooled top with cork. Aqua glass, rectangular bottle with small bubbles throughout. Lefevre came from a French drug store family that emigrated to California during the Gold Rush. He established his French Drugstore in Virginia City that was well known to the red light community; he catered to the needs of women. The Lefevre bottles are important to Nevada history because of their tie to a business that specifically catered to women and also to the brothel business. His function as a merchant supplying ladies of the evening with fancy erotic clothing, and tending to their specific medical needs was an up-front approach to business that made others uncomfortable. Few relics survive today from this trade, particularly those dating prior to 1900 [Ref: Nevada History Through Glass, Vol. II, Fred Holabird, 2012]. - Jacobitz Collection -59580
