Doxa Football Engraved Large Pocket Watch
Doxa "Football" Engraved Large Open Face Pocket Watch Circa 1910. On the back of this massive 2.75" diameter watch is an incredible scene showing several helmetless young fellows engaged in a rough and tumble game of football in a grassy field. The ball-carrier is applying a straight arm to the defender in the finest NFL style. This scene is surrounded by a Art Nouveau style decorative border against a black enamel background, a design that is carried over to the front bezel. This engraved back opens to a metal cover over the Doxa movement that states "Medaille d'or Milan 1906" and "Hors Concours Liege 1905" picturing some of the medals the company had won. The mint Roman-numeraled dial is marked "Anti-Magnetique" and "DOXA" with a seconds dial at the 6:00 position. The watch is crown-wound, set with a push button mechanism, and is currently keeping time. There is some light wear on the case.

Doxa was founded in Switzerland in 1889 by Georges Ducommun who became very interested in automobiles early on. His company would became a manufacturer of precision timing devices for some of the first race cars. They were also the manufacturer of the first commercial diver watch. This lot should not be passed up by any horological-minded football fanatic. Can you just imagine the envy on the faces of your fellow football fans when you casually pull this watch out of your pocket during the first game of the upcoming season?
