Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Cherub Salt Cellar
A molded Doulton Lambeth stoneware salt cellar in an oval form, featuring cobalt blue glazed interior and exterior highlights with applied molded decoration. The body is adorned with raised foliate and geometric banding in ochre and deep blue hues, encircled by beaded trim and detailed relief work. At each terminal, a three-dimensional winged putto figure is seated in a pensive pose atop a squared pedestal with incised and painted geometric motifs. These cherubic figures are modeled in high relief and exhibit characteristic whimsy, attributed to the style of George Tinworth, a renowned artist and modeler for Doulton. The underside bears impressed marks including the circular Doulton Lambeth mark with rosette and crown, dated 1879, and the artists' monograms.
