Doulton Lambeth Jardiniere with Historical Faces in Relief Medallions
Doulton Lambeth stoneware jardiniere featuring applied relief portrait medallions in a continuous band around the upper body. Each medallion depicts historical figures in profile, encased in oval cartouches, and interspersed with raised floral motifs and stylized foliage. The band above the medallions is decorated with a row of vertical ridges, while the rim is finished with a beaded border. The lower portion of the jardiniere showcases large, lobed leaf motifs glazed in cobalt blue, pale green, and chocolate brown, extending down to a flared foot with complementary foliate decoration. The piece is executed in rich high-relief detail and features a high-gloss salt glaze in vibrant shades of blue, brown, and ivory-white. The base is unglazed and reveals the hand-thrown terracotta body. A visible screw is fitted in the base center, likely part of an original pedestal mount. Incised markings can be seen on the underside, including what appears to be initials or a signature, although partially obscured.
