Professionally matted and framed with a name plate. MacArthur was born into a military family and showed a natural aptitude for the life of an officer. He graduated first in his West Point Class (1903) and rose rapidly to become a brigadier general during World War I. The Second World War found MacArthur serving as Supreme Allied Commander in the Southwest Pacific. In 1951 MacArthur was relieved of command in Korea since his desire to expand the war into China ran counter to President Truman's plan to contain the conflict. Jean MacArthur was the General's second wife.
