A. On July 17, 1938, aviator Douglas Corrigan left Floyd Bennett Airfield in Brooklyn, NY on a flight to Los Angeles but “accidentally” went the wrong way. Twenty-eight hours and 13 minutes later, he landed outside Dublin, Ireland. Corrigan returned home to a hero's welcome.
