Two TLSs to Mr. Wolf in Chicago: one page letter, 7 x 9, War Department letterhead, dated November 25, 1930. In part: “Of all those that went through the war with me you were the one with whom I was most closely associated and for whom I feel the greatest affection. It is still a regret to me that you are still not in my official family at this time when I have reached the fruition of the American Military Service.”; one page letter, 8 x 10.5, General Headquarters letterhead, dated July 16, 1947. In part: “I wish I had time to write for The Atlantic Monthly…unfortunately my obligations are so heavy that I cannot increase them…In spite of apparent unsurmountable [sic] difficulties, we are on the road here to the light and the truth.” Toning and soiling to earlier letter, and several creases and horizontal fold through signature of later letter, otherwise fine condition. Interesting insight in a pair of letters bookending World War II.
