World War II-dated TLS, one page, 6.5 x 8.5, Office of the Military Adviser, Commonwealth of the Philippines letterhead, August 1, 1941. Letter to Jonathan M. Morin, in full: "I thank you so sincerely for your message of congratulations. It was thoughtful indeed of you to write me and I appreciate it. The most pleasing feature of my new command is the inspiring words of felicitation which it has elicited from such good friends as yourself. Again my thanks." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. On July 26, 1941, President Roosevelt federalized the Philippine Army, and recalled MacArthur to active duty in the US Army as a major general. He was named commander of US Army Forces in the Far East, and the following day was promoted to lieutenant general. By year's end, he held the rank of general.
