Beautifully engraved partly-printed vellum DS, signed by Douglas MacArthur as superintendent of West Point, one page, 18 x 23.75, June 14, 1922. United States Military Academy diploma presented to Blackshear Morrison Bryan, Jr., of the state of Louisiana, "having been carefully examined on all the Branches of the Arts, Sciences, and Literature taught at the United States Military Academy has been judged worthy to receive the Degree required by Law preparatory to his advancement in the Army of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by MacArthur as superintendent of the Academy, and signed underneath by 11 officers and professors. In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned presidential commission appointing Bryan "temporarily, a Lieutenant General in the Army of the United States," dated January 26, 1954. The first and only West Point graduation diploma signed by MacArthur that we have ever offered.

Lieutenant General Blackshear Morrison Bryan (1900-1977) was a United States Army general who served during the Second World War and Korean War. After graduation from West Point, Bryan took artillery officer training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He returned to West Point to serve as an assistant Army football coach during the 1925 and 1926 seasons and was also an instructor there in 1928-29 and 1933-34. After serving in high-ranking positions during WWII and the Korean War, where he served briefly as commanding general of I Corps, he was appointed the 43rd superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point, serving from 1954 to 1956.
