Silver Glance District. A collection of approximately 20 items, consisting of location notices, receipts, assay certificates, informal account figures, letters and notes primarily concerning the Lone Pine #1 and Lone Pine #2 quartz mining claims in Douglas County, NV. Other properties mentioned are the Tightner Mines of Sierra Co., CA (receipts and disbursements for 1915), the Hiawatha MC assay certificate of 1906, and the Della Mine (account figures sheet and handwritten Notice of Location, 1906). Charles C. Derby was involved with all of these properties and this collection undoubtedly comes from his personal papers. Interestingly, the Tightner Mine, located in the Alleghany District of Sierra County, CA, eventually became part of the Sixteen to One operation. The Tightner was known as a good producer, especially under the supervision of Henderson L. Johnson, who leased the property in 1903 and then took it over again in later years. Holbrook Station, southeast of Minden, was located in the Pine Nut Range and was named for his proprietor Chas. E. Holbrook. A post office was established there as early as 1863 and discontinued in March, 1915, according to Helen Carlson’s Nevada Place Names, pg. 135.
