British pilot (1910–1982) who lost both his legs in 1931 but continued to fly in WWII with the use of artificial limbs. TLS, one page both sides, 7.75 x 9.5, July 30, 1963. A superb account of his combat with German ace Adolf Galland in World War II. In part: “The situation as far as I was concerned was that I was not downed by Alf Galland, the German ace, on August 9th, 1941. I collided with one of his pilots, (who I think was killed), over Bethune. I think the German pilot of the Me. 109 was killed in the collision, whereas I bailed out. Collisions in World War II were by no means uncommon, I think probably because there were a lot of aeroplanes in the sky milling around.” Bader adds a few notes and corrections to the text in his own hand. In very good condition, with partial separations to intersecting folds (one repaired with toned tape), and scattered toning.
