Doughboys First (Lot of 2) 12 x 15 WWI Poster Doughboys First
Doughboys First (Lot of 2) 12" x 15" Artist: Frank Schoonover. This poster is a lithographic version of an actual painting by Schoonover. It depicts the Doughboys being allowed to cross the German border first, as higher ranking officers from other divisions stood aside. The ultimate goal of this poster was the recruitment of men to enlist in the army as Doughboys. A wonderful painting with amazing dark colors and highlights. This poster shows the viewer the amount of respect and admiration with which Doughboys were treated overseas. The term doughboy came from the 1916 campaign into Mexico to capture the famous Pancho Villa. The term doughboy was first a term of derision, as it came from the fine adobe dust that covered the men as they marched, having been kicked up by the cavalry and motor transport vehicles. It marked the men as veterans of combat who had gone abroad to do their duty for Uncle Sam. Do not miss the opportunity to add this amazing poster to your collection! <r<r Condition-Poster 1-Fine; cockling from severe fold memory, dirt residue on left edge. <r<r Poster 2-Fine; cockling from fold memory, dirt residue and stains on top edge, some water damage stains on edge.
