Double Dated Rework Danzig GEW 98 Bolt Action Rifle with Nazi Proof and Bayonet
This is an example of a reworked, double dated Danzig rifle probably issued to the German police. The top of the chamber is marked "1920 / crown / DANZIG / 1917", the right side is marked with three crown/ letter proofs and "4 5 8". The left side is marked with the Imperial eagle and the serial number with "GEW 98" marked on the side wall. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the matching serial number and the top is marked with a crown over Gothic letter proof and "I 520". Also "S/42" and two "WaA211" proofs are present on the right side of the rear sight base. The front barrel band has been renumbered, not matching, otherwise the visible numbers match. All blue finish and mounted with a one piece pistol grip stock with flat iron buttplate and brown sling. The rifle is complete with a Erfurt saber bayonet with a serrated wooden handle and leather scabbard with metal tip and throat. The handguard is marked "1. G.G.R.5.117.".
