This is a very rare Flintlock double barrel pocket pistol by Edward Bate, of London circa 1770-1780. The piece has two rifled round barrels that are threaded onto the frame. The side of the lock plate is hand engraved with a banner, drum, and flag design with “Bates” in the center and the other side of the lock plate shows a similar patriotic scene with “London” in the center. Most likely a custom order firearm for a high ranking officer. The pistol has an internally rotating pan, making it possible to fire the top barrel first, then the bottom barrel second. The rotating pan lever side button plate has an excellent floral etching. Rare condition for being over 240 years old. Revolutionary War Era pistol. Pistol has a 2 5/8”L barrels and is 7 5/8”L overall.

This is a legal agreement between you, the user or buyer, and North American Auction Company. You must be at least 18 years old to bid. North American Auction Company. Buyer also agrees that venue shall be in Gallatin County, Montana and that the laws of the State of Montana shall govern this Agreement and the parties' transaction hereunder. The BUYER expressly agrees to indemnify and save the Auction Co., Seller and their assigns harmless from and against all claims, losses, expenses, damage or liability, (including, but not limited to, attorney's fees), directly or indirectly caused by or resulting from Buyer's negligent acts or omissions or breach of this agreement, except for damages caused by or resulting from the Auction Co.'s sole negligence. If there is a dispute on the authenticity of an item, the only professional opinion that will be considered is from a curator of a well-known museum.
