Dorchester, MA - $5 Original Fr. 394 The First NB Ch. # 156
This attractive Original Series $5 comes from one of the toughest to find Massachusetts banks we have ever offered. It is represented only by an Original series $1 note and by this example, which is very likely the $5 Original that came from the Grinnell sale but was unidentified there by serial number. This bank, which was chartered in 1863, had the distinction of being the second National Bank in Massachusetts to fail, which it did in 1868 after less than five years of operation. No examples from this bank have been offered at auction in the past quarter century, with a NASCA sale in 1983 the last (and only) appearance cited in Track and Price. Bright Very Fine, with the traditional New England close trim, a truly rare note worthy of the finest of collections.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
