About The Castillo Family:
Antonio Castillo Terán (Sept 17, 1917 ~ May 25, 2000) was from Toluca, he arrived in Taxco, Mexico at the young age of 16 in 1933 and shared a room in the back of the ferreteria 'La Esmeralda' just off the zocalo. A part of the back room was rented out to a photographer of postcards for a production darkroom and the young Antonio was soon engaged in the the printing and sales of these postcards. Soon after William Spratling moved to Taxco and started his famous 'Las Delicias Taller' Antonio became one of his first apprentices, in fact all five brothers worked for Spratling at one time in different capacities.
The young Castillo brothers began their apprenticeship in the first workshop, which was set up in Spratling's home in Taxco.
