Euridice in the Mediterranean. The obverse and reverse depictions on the Badge are similar to those borne on either side of one of the Colours of the Royal Company prior to the presentation of new Colours in 1832. Badges of this form were worn around the neck by members of the Council of the Royal Company at their meetings and had been presented to the Council of the Royal Company in 1784 by Sir James Pringle of Stichill, Bart., the President of the Council from 1783 to 1809. Milne was periodically a member of the Council. These swords were introduced as the Shooting Dress sword for Archers of the Royal Company by the Duke of Buccleuch in 1836, and were not worn by officers of the Royal Company. The dates ascribed to this example are known to be those during which the company traded under that name and at that address. Given Sir David Milne's rank as an officer in the Royal Company, together with the fact that he died in 1845, this sword is unlikely to have been worn by him.
