Documented U.S. Colt Model 1903 Semi-Automatic General Officer's Pistol with Shipping Box Labeled to Major General Raymond McNally, U.S. Army Reserve

Manufactured in 1944, according to the records found in "The Colt U.S. General Officer's Pistol" by Greeley, this pistol was issued in 1963. Full blue finish and fixed sights with the 2 line Hartford address and patent dates on the left side of the slide, the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, and "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" on the right, immediately above "U.S.PROPERTY" on the frame. Checkered walnut grips, with Rampant Colt medallions at the tops. Included with the pistol is a plain brown cardboard box hand-numbered to the gun, and a shipping box. The box bears multiple date stamps for May of 1963, and a 4th Class shipping label addressed to the "USAR AREA SUP OFCR" at Riverview Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri, specifically labeled for Major General Raymond F. McNally. A simple internet search found the following information on McNally: a West Point memorial page for his wife's first husband (killed in Japanese captivity during World War II) mentions him in passing as a retired Major General in the Reserve, and his name was signed on a 1979 open letter in the New York times, along with a number of other retired Admirals and Generals, calling for increased recognition and support for Israel and a halt to any further arms control deals with the Soviets. A Raymond Forrest McNally was also found in association with the book Quartermaster Activities of II Corps Thru Algeria, Tunisia, and Sicily and First Army Thru Europe, which was first published in 1955.

Very fine as arsenal refinished, showing 98% of the dark military finish with minor handling marks and a small amount of bright edge wear. The grips are excellent with a small amount of verdigris buildup and pressure dents. Box is fair, with the shipping label partially obscured by packing tape. Mechanically excellent. An attractive example of a U.S. General Officer's Pistol.
