Documented Turn-of-the-Century 1901 Shipped Nickel Plated Factory Pearl Gripped Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1901. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, "45 COLT" on the left side and the two line, three patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "899". All nickel finish with niter blue screws, cylinder pin and release, blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with two piece factory pearl grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, nickel finish, pearl grips and that it was a one gun shipment sold to J.C. Nunn and shipped to Norvell Shapleigh Hardware Co. in St. Louis, Mo. On November 27, 1901. Ownership history provided by the consignor states the original owner was William J. York of Bonham, Texas, whom passed it down through the consignor's family. No research has been done by this writer on the above individual or J.C. Nunn whom the factory record documents.

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% plus original nickel plating with scattered wear and flaking. The exposed surfaces have a smooth brown patina. The trigger guard screws retain most of the original bright niter blue finish with traces of niter blue in protected areas on the remaining small parts. The grips are excellent with some very small cracks developing around the right side escutcheon. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
