Documented Special Order First Generation Factory Engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Ivory Grips and Factory Letter

Colt factory engraved Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured in 1927. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that describes it as: Caliber .38 Colt, Barrel Length: 5 1/2 inches, Finish: Blue, Type of Stocks: Ivory and Factory Engraved: Yes along with the initials "F.G.C." engraved along the strap. The letter states that this revolver was shipped to the New York Sporting Goods Company on June 10, 1927. The revolver has a blued barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, hammer and loading gate are color casehardened. The two-piece ivory grips with inlaid nickel-silver Colt medallions. The hammer has border-less knurling on the spur. The barrel has a period custom front sight with stippled ramp. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co.HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The caliber, ".38 COLT." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt 'Three-Date/Two-Line' patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The assembler's mark "3" and the Colt 'Triangle/VP' proofmark are stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The assembly number, "322" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The full serial number, "350782" is located on the bottom of the frame and the left side of the back strap and trigger guard grips strap beneath the grips. The partial serial number "82" is present on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the serial numbers match. The revolver has Colt No. 2 factory engraving executed by master engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. The initials "F.G.C." are factory engraved on the back strap behind the hammer slot. The engraving on this revolver is nearly identical to the engraving on Colt Single Action Army revolvers serial number 349681 and serial number 352131 illustrated on page 574 of "THE COLT ENGRAVING BOOK, VOLUME TWO" by R.L. Wilson. Factory engraved Single Action Army revolvers with blue and casehardened finishes are particularly scarce.

Manufacture: Colt
Model: Single Action Army
BBL: 5 1/2 Inch
Stock:
Gauge: 38 Colt
Finish: blue/case-hardened
Grips: ivory medallion
Serial Number: 350782

Extremely fine. The revolver retains 95% plus of the original blue finish. There is some very minor edge wear on the muzzle, leading edge of the cylinder and edges of the trigger guard. The frame, loading gate and hammer have 90% of the subdued case colors. The markings are sharp and the engraving is extremely crisp. The ivory grips are in very fine overall condition; there is a hair-line crack in the left grip that runs thru the Colt Medallion. Both grips have the usual age discoloration and there are very minor hair-line age cracks on the bottom of the grips. The hammer will not hold at half-cock. The front sight is a period installed ramp style rifle sight. This is an attractive example of a scarce, factory engraved, Colt Single Action Army revolver with blue and casehardened finish.
