Manufactured from 1861-1874. Round blade front sight with notched rear sight. The barrel is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS." This revolver is pictured on page 30 of Supica and Nahas book "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Second Edition)". The barrel, cylinder and frame extending to the back strap feature Germanic vine scroll engraving. Full nickel plated barrel, cylinder and frame. Rosewood grips.

Condition: Traces of nickel remains on the barrel stronger in sheltered areas showing flaking and minor scattered pin prick type pitting. The cylinder is mostly a mottled gray patina exhibiting some flat spots on the engraving otherwise markings and engraving remain sharp. The frame also retains traces of nickel all in protected areas the balance is an even gray patina. The hinge has been broken repaired. The cylinder could use tightening. The grips are good, with varnish wear and a few light pressure marks. A scarce 5" engraved number 2 Army. Mechanically needs work as the cylinder spins freely.
