Manufactured from 1960 to 1980. This rifle features floral scroll engraving on the frame with scallop and decorative bordering. The top of the barrel at the breech has a 2 1/4 inch wedge of the same engraving design, as well as the trigger guard and bottom of the magazine. The left side of the barrel is marked with the three line address/patent numbers followed by "6MM REM.". The bottom of the frame directly ahead of the magazine is engraved "Remington/MODEL 742 D" over the serial number. The barrel is fitted with a ramped blade front sight, (hood absent) and an adjustable rear sporting sight and there is a sling swivel eye mounted toward the muzzle end. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Mounted with a high gloss multi-point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a plastic Remington grip cap, Pachmayr vented recoil pad and sling swivel eye. Complete with a Remington box, hand marked "742 "D" GRADE". The rifle is accompanied by a letter from the Remington High Grade Shotguns & Rifles Research Team which verifies this rifle by serial number as a Model 742 "D" Grade, customers name, order number, caliber and the start work, promised and to warehouse dates. There is also research of R.P. "Bob" Runge's personal engraving logs verifying that he engraved this rifle spending 10 1/2 hours labor. The letter also states that there are a total of 75 High Grade D & F Grade Model 742s listed in factory records. There is also a copy of a page of Runge's log book with this rifle listed on it.

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish with a moderate scratch on top of the barrel behind the rear sight, some mild muzzle wear and a few light scratches and handling marks on the receiver. The wood is also excellent with 99% original high gloss varnish remaining, with a few minor nicks on the forearm and a few small minor pressure dents and scuffs on the stock. Overall the checkering is sharp. The engraving and markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent. The box is very good.
