The included Colt factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length and finish with the stocks not listed. The letter states that this pistol was shipped to the transportation officer at the U.S. Marine Corps Supply Depot at Camp La Juene, North Carolina, on July 17, 1953, as part of a 1,250 gun shipment. The letter further states that "this pistol was processed on Colt Factory Order Number 7848 and United States Government Contract DA19-059-ord 1535." The pistol features a pinned front blade sight with adjustable notch rear sight. The left side of the barrel is marked with the one line Colt address, caliber marking on the left side of the slide, and the Rampant Colt above "WOODSMAN" on the left side of the frame. The right side of the frame is marked "USMC PROPERTY" above the serial number. The "Colt wood" plastic grips have a checkered pattern, the Rampant Colt on the right panel, and a thumb rest on the left panel.

Condition: Very fine. The pistol retains 75% original blue finish with the balance a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting, spotting, and scratches. The grips are very fine with some minor dings (mostly on the edges) and scratches, along with a minor crack on the right panel. Overall the checkering is crisp.
