Documented Rare Extremely Early Antique Parker Brothers Under Lifter Back Action Side by Side Hammer Shotgun Mentioned in The Parker Story Book

This interesting shotgun has what appear to be 14 gauge chambers with the bores measuring .725/.730. The barrels have a single bead sight, are choked cylinder/cylinder and have 2 1/2 inch chambers with an extractor. The trigger plate is stamped with "PATENTED NOV.13.1866". The rib is engraved "PARKER BROS MAKERS MERIDEN. CONN' DECARBONIZED STEEL." and the bottom of the lug is stamped "019.". The inside of the forearm hardware, inside of forearm and water table are also stamped "019.". The hammers have some minor engraving around the outside edge, the bottom of the receiver has a flourish of floral scroll engraving and the lower tang is engraved with a decorative design. Mounted on a multi-point checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with smooth steel buttplate. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches. Included with the shotgun is a photocopy of page 87 of The Parker Story, Volume I, which mentions a serial #19 shotgun.

Fair, there is a mostly smooth mottled gray/brown patina overall with scattered dings, scratches and some areas of minor pitting. There are multiple dings in the barrels. The left lock plate has a small area of blue coloration and the inside of the forearm has traces of case colors. The lower tang has been repaired. The refinished wood is also fine with scattered scratches and dings along with smoothed checkering. Mechanically fine with barrels slightly off face. There is a moderate bulge about mid-way in each barrel with some other minor dents in the barrels. The overall condition merits a thorough inspection by a competent gunsmith.
