Manufacturer: Walther Model: HP
This is an example of a very scarce prewar Swedish commercial contract Walther Model HP pistol with correct pre-1940 Nitro proofmarks. This pistol has the early high polish, commercial blue finish. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner, "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/Walther's Patent Cal 9M/M" and "Mod HP". A commercial "crown/N" proof is on the right side of the slide, locking block, barrel lug and frame with the serial number correctly stamped on the inside of the slide. The serial number is also marked on the front of the barrel lug and right side of the frame with the partial serial number "301 on the locking block. The checkered black Bakelite grips are distinctly a Swedish pattern, and each one is marked on the inside with four mold or proof marks as follows: small circle with "CEWE" "480" maker's mark of a small "V7/MD/Z23" all in one proof over "1". There is a lanyard ring on the left heel and the magazine is unmarked. The brown leather holster has Widforss, Stockholm marking ink stamped on the inside of the flap along with "A. Molmstrom" hand marked in pen. This pistol is identified by serial in Warren Buxton's book THE P.38 PISTOL, page 99.
