Documented Griffin & Howe Bolt Action Rifle from the Collection of Baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams

As verified by the letter of provenance from Claudia Williams (Ted Williams' daughter), this rifle was the personal property of baseball legend and war hero Ted Williams. Williams had a 19 year career with the Boston Red Sox, which was twice interrupted by military service as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot, and holds the highest career batting average of anyone with 500 or more home runs. This pre-WWII rifle is built on the Mauser Model 98 action and the barrel is marked "No 1271 GRIFFIN & HOWE, INC. NEW YORK.". Bolt, extractor and follower are jeweled. Hooded ramp front sight and Lyman receiver sight and checkered pistol grip stock with grip cap, horn forend tip, sling swivel studs, cheekpiece and vented Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. The accompanying "Letter of Provenance" incorrectly states G&H number 1271 is a custom Model 1903 Springfield rifle.

Very fine. The rifle retains 85% original blue finish with loss at the muzzle and thinning to a gray. A long scuff mark is present at the barrel marking. The refinished stock is fine with a few minor handling marks and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering.
