Colt Single Action Army revolver with Colt factory letter that states the revolver was shipped from Colt's to the H&D Folsom Arms Co., in New York, New York, on June 20, 1907. The letter verifies that the revolver is .45 caliber with a 5 1/2-inch barrel, nickel-plated finish and factory engraving. The grips are not identified in the letter. The revolver has a full nickel-plated finish and is engraved with factory "B" with geometric scroll-work, with a punch-dot background and two-piece mother-of-pearl grips. The engraving appears to be the work of master engraver Cuno A. Helfricht or his shop. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The caliber designation "45 COLT" on the left side of the barrel is surrounded by an engraved banner. The left side of the frame has the Colt two-line/three-date patent markings in an engraved banner followed by the Rampant Colt in an engraved circle. The Colt triangle/VP proof mark is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow and the assembler's mark "6" is stamped on the left rear trigger guard bow. The assembly number, "2782" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The full serial number, "295994" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "5994" is stamped on the underside of the barrel below the ejector housing and "994" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the visible serial number match.
BBL: 5 1/2 In
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Finish: Nickel
Grips: mother of pearl
Serial Number: 295994
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 90% of the original nickel-plated finish. There is some minor finish loss on the barrel below the caliber designation and on the edges of the frame next to the cylinder face. The cylinder has moderate flaking. The engraving is deep and crisp. All of the factory markings are sharp. The grips have some very slight shrinkage from age. The grips are excellent. This is an exceptional example of a documented Colt factory engraved nickel-plated Single Action revolver.
