Documented Denver Colorado Shipped Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter and Steer Head Ivory Grips

This is a nice example of a Colt Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured in 1931. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address and "38 W.C.F." is marked on the left side. The left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the front and back strap under the grip. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with the number "3" over the Colt "VP" triangle proof. The loading gate and right rear of the frame are marked with the matching assembly number "126". Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame and hammer, and fitted with two piece ivory grips with a relief carved steer head on the right panel and silver Colt medallions. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, carved ivory grips and that it was shipped as 1 to Whitney Sporting Goods in Denver, Colorado (order number 23528/1) on July 17, 1931.

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear, thinning, and a drag line and minor spotting on the cylinder. The frame retains 70% original bright case colors with some fading to a smooth gray and some minor spotting. "T.W. TUNNELL" is scratched into the left side of the front strap under the grip, "JULY 1931" on the left and "T. W. T" on the inside of the butt. The grips are fine with some minor age hairline cracks present on the bottoms and upper right side, and an attractive caramel patina. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
