Documented Denver Colorado Shipped Colt Model 1878 Double Action Revolver in Scare 41 Colt Caliber,
According to the included factory letter, this revolver was one of two shipped to the George Tritch Hardware Company of Denver, Colorado on December 2, 1898. The letter confirms all the features, including the typically unlisted hard rubber grips. According to Wilkerson's book "Colt's Double-Action Revolver Model of 1878", 308 of these revolvers were made in 41 Colt caliber, and only 137 in this configuration. In fact, this revolver is pictured on page 286 of Wilkerson's book, immediately below the chart that provides the production data. Fixed sights, with the two line Hartford address on top of the barrel, "41 COLT." on the left side and the circled Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame. Matching partial number on the rear of the cylinder, with the loading gate stamped "122". Checkered hard rubber grips, with the Rampant Colt logos at the top and a lanyard swivel on the butt.
BBL: 4 3/4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 41 Long Colt
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 40064

Excellent, with 90% of the original blue finish, showing a mixed gray and brown patina concentrated on the grip straps, and the start of a brown patina on the cylinder, with bright edge wear and minor handling marks. Strong niter blue color is visible on the rear of the hammer and trigger. Grips are excellent, with minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. An excellent example, which would fill a void in most Colt collections.
