Documented Colt Single Action Army Flattop Target Revolver with Factory Letter
This is an example of a scarce Colt Single Action Army "Flattop Target" revolver as manufactured in 1911. This specific revolver is fitted with a set of genuine mother of pearl grips. These were Colt's premium grade, large frame, target grade revolver that were produced from approximate 1894 up through approximately 1911 with the approximately 925 produced in total. These models were produced with a high grade all blued finish with color casehardened hammer with fixed target rear sight and a German silver blade target front sight. This specific pistol is accompanied with a Colt factory letter dated August 1962 that confirms this exact configuration of revolvers as being shipped to "P.T. Streit" address "Unknown" on Dec 8th 1911 in this exact configuration, except for the mother of pearl grips which are not listed. The revolver has a distinctive frame with flat top frame strap with the fixed rear sight (adjustable for windage) with the early version of the blade front sight that is a pinned in the base with the sides of the base smooth. The top of the barrel has the standard Colt single line address of "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the left side is marked; "38 COLT". The left side of the frame has the Colt's two-line, three-date patent markings, followed by the encircled Rampant Colt. The serial number "317024" is located on the bottom of the frame, forward portion of the trigger guard and the bottom of the backstrap. The loading gate is stamped "679". It is complete with a set of mother of pearl grips with the gold Colt medallions at the top of each grip panel. It is also fitted with the Colt factory trigger with the smooth face.
