Document entitled United States Citizens identity card for use on the Mexican border issued by Mexican Government to F.O. Hamer, Brownsville, Texas showing his picture in the right corner identifying him as a state officer duly signed by Mexican officials dated April 4th , 1919. F.O. (Frank) Hamer is among the most famous of all Texas Rangers and his photograph and fingerprint are affixed to the card along with a photograph of his wife and 3 children. Hamer traveled extensively in Mexico in pursuit of bad men and property. An affidavit signed and notarized by Frank Hamer Junior dated 1977 authenticates this document and recants the fact that the identity card was issued to Hamer after he went back into Texas Rangers service in 1919 subsequent to recuperating from a gunfight in 1918 with G. McMeans in Sweetwater, Texas. Frank Hamer Jr. states the photograph on the card underneath that of Hamer is his mother, two half-sisters and himself along with the photograph of his father and his thumbprint at the top. He further states that the family lived in Brownsville where the card was issued until 1921 when they moved to Del Rio and Frank became captain of Company C. He further describes the service career of Capt. Hamer Texas Ranger and relates a story when Hamer crossed the Rio Grande and became the head of a large group of Mexican soldiers who combed 90 miles of the border and recovered stolen stock and property. The people in possession of the stolen property were lined up against an Adobe wall and they were allowed to reassemble and return the stolen goods to the rightful owners in Texas before this threat of execution.
