Document and Jewels relating to Sir David Milne's Freemasonry, Certificate of Rear Admiral Sir David Milne K.C.B. &c &c, of the Naval & Military Royal Arch Chapter No.40 in Edinburgh, ratifying and confirming Milne as a Royal Arch Mason, dated 15th January 1821. Printed in ink on vellum, 23 1/2"x 18 3/4" (60 x 47.5cm), from an engraved plate with handwritten additions in ink and bearing impressions of the seals of the Naval & Military Royal Arch Chapter and of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland. Jewel, The Supreme Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland, 1821. Silver, unhallmarked, 2 3/4"x1 3/4" (7 x 4.4cm), pendant from a multi-coloured vandyked silk ribbon 2" (5cm) wide. Jewel, the Centenary of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, 1836. Silver-gilt, unhallmarked, 1 3/4"x1" (4.4 x 2.6cm), the figure of St Andrew with his cross, with Compasses above and Square below, suspended from a thistle ribbon bar and a ribbon of green moiré silk, 1 1/2" (4cm) wide.· Grand Master's Badge, The United, Religious and Military Orders of The Temple and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Palestine, Rhodes and Malta, c.1836. Unhallmarked silver and enamel, formed of two black enamel and silver Maltese crosses addorsed, joined at the points and suspended from a hingeing gilded crown; on the centre obverse, a red enamel cross pattée; with a vertical silver ribbon suspension formed of floral sprays. Sir David Milne was Grand Master of these conjoined Orders from 1836 until his death in 1845. He was also in the very rare position of being Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Scotland for the two years 1838 and 1839 - most office-bearers only holding office for one year.
