Doctor X (First National, 1932). One Sheet (27 X 41 ).
Doctor X (First National, 1932). One Sheet (27" X 41"). Michael Curtiz, director of such classics as "Casablanca," and "Captain Blood," was also a deft hand at the horror game. He directs Lionel Atwill as the mad Doctor X, in this early horror thriller alongside Fay Wray and Lee Tracy. Curtiz would also direct Atwill in the famous "Mystery of the Wax Museum" in the following year. Both these film were shot in early two-strip Technicolor. This moody one sheet is one of the finer examples of First National/Warner Brothers posters of the era, with its glowing stone litho artwork. The poster has some chipping in the white borders including a small chip from the lower left and upper left as well as upper right corner. There is a tear in the top right side of the yellow "X" with no paper loss. There is a tear that extends from the lower center title area up through the yellow "X" and just beyond the lower horizontal fold. There is another tear which extends from the right side of the lower horizontal fold up through the yellow "X" and into Fay Wray's face. The repair work was done magnificently and the poster has the appearance of a near mint copy. The colors on this poster are truly stunning. Fine+ on Linen.
