Doctor Doolittle (1967) Original Storyboard
Doctor Doolittle (1967) Original Storyboard It's amazing that the original "Doctor Doolittle" (1967) became such a box office hit, award winner and musical classic.. Fraught with staggering back-stage drama, both in casting, story controversy and enormous production problems (especially with the animals!), it's a wonder it was ever completed. This is a rare original storyboard created at the very beginning of the production, showing the cast on Doctor Doolittle ship, "The Flounder" on its epic journey to find the Giant Pink Snail. The beautifully realized storyboard shows Doctor Doolittle (Rex Harrison), Emma (Samantha Eggar), Albert (Richard Attenborough), Tommy (William Dix), and the chimp Chee-Chee on the deck of the ship. It also shows the extremely controversial character of Bumpo, (from the original book), with a realization of Sidney Poitier, who was signed to play him. However after much soul-searching Poitier decided not to play the part, and it was finally scrapped from the production. Also, the character of Albert was written out of the last half of the film, so never made it onto the ship. This magnificent production illustration is lovingly framed and mounted. Also included is a second illustration of a very early and "raw" conceptual art rendering of the title logo with Doctor Doolittle riding a Giraffe with Polynesia the Parrot and Rufus the dog. The final title sequence actually did include special "children's book" style illustrations. Comes with a Letter of Provenience from the original owner. Storyboard is 13"x6.5" and the custom frame is 20"x14". The title illustration is 5"x8.5" and the custom frame is 12.5"x15.5").
