A member of the Comanche Indian tribe of Oklahoma, Doc Tate Nevaquaya, known also as Joyce Lee Tate, was a painter, teacher, minister, dancer and musician. He studied at the Fort Sill Indian School in Lawton, Oklahoma, and the Haskell Indian Nations University.
