Extremely rare ALS in French, signed “D. Mendeleev, Profes. a l'Universite St. Petersburg,” one page, 8.5 x 11, November 25, 1888. Significant letter reviewing Ira Remsen's "Introduction to the Study of Compounds of Carbon." In full (translated): ""Thank you for sending me the book of Professor Remsen, 'Introduction to the Study of Compounds of Carbon.' The elements of organic chemistry are exposed in this book in such a novel and interesting way, that I am anxious to see it translated into other languages." In very good to fine condition, with short tears to the left edge, and repaired areas of paper loss to the top edge. Just the second Mendeleev letter we have offered, boasting important scientific content.
