Typed draft of a manuscript entitled "Bebop: Reminiscences of an Era in Jazz by Dizzy Gillespie, as told to Alfred Fraser," 849 pages, 8.5 x 11, circa mid-to-late 1970s. The book, which would undergo substantial revisions, would later be published in 1980 under the title 'To Be or Not to Bop.' Includes a TLS by Al Fraser, signed "Al," one page, June 22, 1974, transmitting a very early draft of his life story and requesting revisions, as well as offering a suggestion for publication: "We're thinking about making this the first audio book with a cassette tape in the back containing all the 'most representative' recordings you've made through the years and your own voice commentary on them. It's a hell of an idea that's never been done before." Also includes 1980 letters from Doubleday concerning the sale of foreign publication rights. In overall very good to fine condition, with creasing to the letters and a stain to the title page of the manuscript.
