Two plaques awarded to legendary jazz trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie: an 8.25 x 12.25 brass-on-wood plaque, reading: "Dizzy Gillespie, In Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to the World of Music and the State of South Carolina, Presented on Behalf of the People of the State before a Joint Session of the South Carolina Legislature, March 9, 1976"; and a 14.5 x 17.5 plaque featuring a metal-on-velvet design within a wooden frame, featuring the Great Seal of the State of South Carolina, engraved below: "The South Carolina Hall of Fame, J. B. 'Dizzy' Gillespie, 1985." In overall fine condition. Born to a local bandleader in Cheraw, South Carolina, Dizzy Gillespie started to play the piano at the age of four, then taught himself how to play the trombone as well as the trumpet by the age of twelve. He would go on to earn fame as an improvisational jazz trumpet virtuoso, renowned for his showmanship and style.
