Kahlar, Sierra County, New Mexico Territory including a Smith & Wesson First Model .44 DA top break revolver, serial #18523, pair of Cobb or Bean’s patent handcuffs with key,stock leather double loop holster and cartridge belt, open face pocket watch and chain, framed photo of Kahlar and an outstanding jeweler-made crescent star fob badge marked “Sheriff”; “Sierra Co. N. M.”.Per a notarized letter dated March 23, 1994, Raul Guillen, executor of the estate of John Romo of Chama, New Mexico, the Smith & Wesson, the handcuffs and the silver watch and chain with attached Sheriff’s badge werethe property of Mr. Romo, Grandson of Max L. Kahler, who used them in his duties as Sheriff of Sierra County, New Mexico, 1894-1896 and then again in 1898-1900.
